San Antonio Diablos Flag Football!

What an incredible weekend! We had a fuckin great time playing in the Bayou City Brawl hosted by Houston. We won 2 and lost 2, but the Houston team noted and commented to me that they have seen sooo much improvement from last year. They were also thoroughly impressed by our grassroots fan base…. they were the real stars of the tournament! Loud, fun, crazy, and full of Diablos support! It was AWESOME!!!

We saw so many amazing plays including interceptions by JD, newbie Lenny, and Kyle, who managed to run his in for a touchdown. Our veterans improved their game and we were all impressed by the new players as well. We had so many people score including Darren, Jack, Chuck, David, Sophia, EJ, a run-in by Pablo, and about 10 touchdowns throughout the tournament by Kedrick… the football machine. The final scores were:
Diablos vs Houston Who Ya 19-39
Diablos vs Bobcats 21-13
Diablos vs Houston Prime 19-32
Diablos vs Bobcats 29-07 for the BRONZE MEDAL!!!

The dinner and drinks after the tournament were great and great fun and everyone had a great time in Montrose or at the Hotel on Saturday night. This team trip was a great success and we are all looking forward to the next! We hope to make trips to Tyler, Chicago, and Phoenix this year too, as well as host our own tournament, the Inferno Bowl, this summer.

Thanks to everyone who came, played, all our supporters, and for the extra cozy accommodations at the Double Tree… we all got to know each other better!

On Wednesday evening March 17th, the Diablos will be converging on Sparky’s, San Antonio’s Gayrish Pub to bask in the green glow of St. Patrick’s day. Come down and have a green beer and help us out! We will be selling St. Patrick’s Day party favors and holding a 50/50 raffle.

Our final game of the day was part of the medal round. We had a rematch with the Tyler East Texas Bobcats for the bronze.

We were digging deep in this last game after playing all day. Tyler was coming off a win against the Houston “Who you with?”. The team did a fantastic job sustaining their energy and playing well. The defense had some really great moments including interceptions by Diablo newcomer Lenny and Diablo veteran Kyle. The offense also never let down and was firing on all cylanders to the very end!

The final score was Diablos 28-Tyler 6.

The Diablos brought a great group of fans with them today’s games. Fueled with cheers, signs and maybe a few (dozen) beers, they got CRAZY and helped get us fired up all day long. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us today!

Game #3- after a brief lunch break, we met Houston’s Prime Time for our third game today. This was one of our best games ever and we matched up well. The final score was 32-19.

The Diablos ramped up their intensity in game #2 against the Tyler East Texas Bobcats. The first half ended with the Diablos up 7-6. The defense really stepped it up to meet the speed and skill of Tyler. Defensive play of the game goes to JD with his interception and 20 yard run. Great job !

The final score was Diablos 21- Tyler 13.

The Diablos hit the field with a lot of itensity in their first game against the Houston team “Who you with?”. The game was was a high scoring 39-19. Although the Diablos came up a little short, their offense was on FIRE with
Great performances from everyone and some especially great catches from Kedrick and David.

Friday March 12th

• 6:00pm: Caravan will meet at Lucien’s work (Education Service Center Region 20 @ 1314 Hines Ave., 78208). We can park there for the weekend (24 hr security) as we caravan to Houston.
• 6:30pm: Depart for Houston
• 8:ishpm: Stop at Buc-ee’s for grub and a team photo op.
• 10:ishpm: check into our host hotel (Doubletree) and take it easy.

Saturday March 13th

• 8:00am Breakfast
• 9:30am Depart for Sportsplex Fields (12631 Main St… our team fee has been reduced and refunded to us…each person will have to pay a $5 entrance fee upon arrival)
• 10:30am Houston Who You With vs. San Antonio Diablos
• 12:00pm San Antonio Diablos vs. Tyler
• **LUNCH BREAK**
• 1:30pm Houston Prime Time vs. San Antonio Diablos
• 3:00pm Gold, Silver, & Bronze Medal Games
• 6:30pm Dinner:  Ruby Tequila’s Mexican Kitchen

We have a big practice scheduled for Saturday at 1pm at the usual place (UT Health Science Center fields on Babcock) in preparation for our first tournament of the year in Houston next weekend (the Bayou City Brawl).
